Landscape Oil On Board, British Countryside, John Westall Artist

A beautiful picturesque 19th century rural landscape , of the countryside with figurines. A beautifully executed oil on board, whom we believe to have been painted by the artist John Westall 1823-1893. There may have once been a signature on the back, please refer to the second to last image. We believe the artist to be John Westall, as this item was acquired together with another one of his works - the last image depicts the back of the other piece which accompanied this painting - the signed piece is not included in this sale.

This painting is also very indicative of John Westall's works, both in subject and execution. John Westall is known for his love of the British countryside with figurines. Besides the subject matter, the tones, and style of painting is also very reminiscent of his style.

There is craquelure throughout the piece which appears stable.
A professional would probably be able to clean this piece up for you, although in my opinion it is lovely exactly as it is.
All four edges around the board are unpainted, which would have originally been hidden by the frame.
As stated above, I believe this to be a painting of John Westall's the details of which are described above, although without a signature, I cannot prove this other than to give you my opinion.
